Our history

Tradition is created by skill and enterprise and from this skill and enterprise we are fast becoming one of the best wholesale nurseries in Perth. Top quality products, through an open mind, fresh ideas, market feeling and experience. An example of this is our history, although formed in 1994 there is more to this company then the birth date suggests.

The ex-principle Eddy Dekkers has been in the industry for over 40 years, starting work in the industry when he was 10 years old in his home town in the Netherlands. He has been involved in many aspects of the industry including vegetables, cut flowers, cacti and now potted plants. He moved to Australia with his family in 1983 to start the largest cut flower nursery in Perth named Floraco together with his business Partner Renee. While part of the nursery has move onto other areas; setting up a cacti nursery (The Horseshoe Cacti Farm) and a cut flower wholesale business called “Flora Flower Power”.

After some years of being involved in the businesses he decided to sell out of the cut flower nursery and wholesale business but kept the cacti nursery going as this was more of a hobby for him. This would ultimately lay the foundation for a new company to be set up called Flora Plant. With the vision of producing high quality flowering pot plants year round and substantial trials being completed at the cacti nursery together with his son they started Flora Plant in 1994. In 2003 he passed the reins over to his son and daughter in law, Richard and Tara and sold out and retired from the business.

With a history in the industry both here and overseas we have gathered considerable experience in all aspects of our trade. Our enthusiasm, passion and research into the best products are unparalleled. A look at this web site will clearly substantiate this claim.
